Ongoing Ways to Support our Community:

FRIENDS OF FOSTER KIDS - HATS OFF TO GRAD PROGRAM

Once a year Friends of Foster Kids, working directly with the Department of Health and Human Services of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties, celebrate the accomplishment of graduating foster youth through our "Hats Off To Grads" program. This program is designed to show them "We Care" and "They Do Matter!" Please join our network of caring Angels and assist with providing the tools necessary for these graduates to transition confidently into living independently.

If you are interested please visit their website or email Theresa Toia at friendsoffosterkids@live.com. Items are due by May 27th.

NEW DAY FOUNDATION

New Day Foundation is an organization that provides financial assistance and emotional support to families facing cancer.

Grocery Delivery Program:

Groceries are purchased and delivered to people in active treatment for cancer who are financially distressed. Some highlights include:

  • Ongoing and flexible, can volunteer once a week or more often

  • No long-term commitment required

  • Volunteers shop for groceries and deliver them to patients in active treatment (or family members) in Macomb County

 How does it work:

  • Heather with New Day Foundation sends a group email weekly on Thursdays

  • This communication includes a list of cities where families need deliveries

  • Volunteers respond to this email indicating if available or not

  • If available, volunteers are assigned a family with their contact info and grocery list

  • Volunteers contact the family to coordinate day and time for delivery and confirm delivery address

    • Volunteer purchases groceries with own funds and then submits to Heather via email their grocery receipt to start the reimbursement process

    • Takes about 1-2 weeks to get reimbursed

 For members interested:

If anyone would like further details, they should reach out to Heather Blasko via email at heather@newdayff.org.  Your name and phone number can then be added to her contact list. Finally, you will need to sign and return to her a driver waiver via DocuSign.
